17 Weeks

Well, this week's baby/vegetable comparison is a lot less appetizing than last week's. Today marks the end of the 17th week of the pregnancy and Baby W Dos is about the size of a turnip. Yum. I was very excited to start feeling little flutters and movements earlier this week, and they are becoming more frequent! I had forgotten what an amazing feeling it is, especially when it's so new. It's also really reassuring, since I was getting tired of that awkward stage between (thankfully!) an end to morning sickness and feeling the baby move. Also this week, we made our appointment for the 20-week ultrasound, at which time we'll find out the baby's gender! I have so much admiration for couples that want to be surprised at the delivery, but that's just not me, at least not right now. Maybe someday for another baby, but I'm so excited to find out this time that there's no way I could wait another 20 weeks!

Birthdays & Bubbles

The past week has definitely been about celebrating birthdays. Our good friends the Gees welcomed their second child, Sadie, into the world last weekend and we've enjoyed getting to spend some time with them. Sadie's cheeks are the chubbiest I've ever seen-- so cute!! On Saturday, Izzy and I went to the first birthday party for the daughter of an old coworker of mine. Ella is a sweetheart and had a great time tearing into her cake! Bubbles were given out as the party favors and it turns out that Izzy LOVES bubbles! She was a little confused at first since she hasn't figured out how to blow and instead licked the bubble wand, but once we got back home and Ben blew the bubbles for her, she thought it was hysterical!

Ben recently found out he has been accepted to take the exam to become licensed as a Professional Engineer in October, so he's been studying a good bit lately. While he studied this weekend, Izzy and I worked on her new bedroom. We moved some of her toys and she seems to really enjoy playing there. My plan is to move her clothes soon and basically do everything in that room except sleep, and then when she seems really comfortable in the space we'll try sleeping there. While I know every child is different, I'd definitely appreciate any advice from folks who've had to change their baby's room before!

16 Weeks

Well, whaddaya know, two posts in two days! Who knew I had it in me? Actually, I think you'll be able to judge how busy I am at work by how often I post... Man, I hope no one from work ever wanders across this blog...

It's so tough for the focus of life not to be on Isabelle since she is here and active and so... shall we say, assertive? But in honor of our growing second child, I think I'll try to post his/her progress every week. Today marks the end of the 16th week of this pregnancy and Baby W version 2.0 is now about the size of an avocado! I enjoy the food analogies for many reasons, not the least of which is that I'm almost always hungry. Speaking of which, my tummy suddenly started to pooch out over the weekend, which is about 5 weeks earlier than it did with Izzy. I'm really trying to watch what I eat and other parents out there know you get lots of exercise chasing a toddler, so I'm hoping the early pooch is just due to the fact that this ain't my first rodeo.

It's really interesting how different this pregnancy has been in terms of preparation. With Izzy, I spent so much time researching EVERYTHING from cribs to clothes to car seats. This time we already have a lot of the baby gear ready to go so the focus is more on where everyone is going to sleep, how we're going to fit 2 car seats comfortably in the back seat, and how to prep Izzy on what's happening. We're still pretty clueless on most things, but I think we have the sleeping arrangements figured out. We've decided to keep Izzy's room as the nursery and move her into the current guest room. We'll keep the bed in that room, (grandparents, we're not giving up the ability to have you come help visit!), but we've gotten a second crib to make the transition easier on us all. I don't think Izzy will be ready for a big girl bed anytime soon, and even if she were, do we really want a 20-month-old free to roam the house at night in addition to the stress of a new baby? No thanks. So we're slowly getting her new room in order and plan to have her start sleeping there in the next month or two. She's generally a very flexible baby, so we're hoping for a fairly seamless transition. Time will tell I guess.

I don't want to overexert myself on only my second day back to blogging, so I'll end now. Look for pictures of Izzy's new room and any shenanigans from the next few days on Monday!

Back to Blogging... Hopefully!

Considering it's been 9 months since my last post, I truly doubt anyone is out there checking for new updates on the Williams Family, but here's one anyhow. Life is good and about to change even more, and I really do want to do a better job at keeping family and friends updated. New goal: post once a week!

Izzy is growing so fast and continues to amaze us. She's a mover and a shaker and definitely has no problem letting us know what she wants! She's walking (or running) everywhere and is saying several words, including Dada, dog, ball, milk, and bye bye. She pops out a Mama every once in a while, though not as often as I'd like. She has 16 teeth (!!) and wants to try whatever we're eating. We are so thankful for her and cannot wait to see what she thinks about becoming a big sister. Yup, we're having another baby! My due date is January 5 but the baby will probably be delivered at the end of this year, so the kiddos will be about 20 months apart in age. I'm more than a little intimidated by that, but many people have reassured me that while it's tough in the beginning, we'll be glad for the closeness the kids will have down the road. I'm holding them to that!!

We are enjoying the summer, although it could cool off a little and I wouldn't mind. I don't know if I'll ever get used to these humid Savannah summers. Izzy doesn't seem to care and adores being outside. She has a sand box, baby pool, and swing in the backyard and is happy as can be out there. We've gone to the beach and pool several times and she's loved those outings too. We're headed to Edisto next week with the Williams and I can't wait for everyone to see her in action on the beach!
